General Synod in Baltimore

Every two years, General Synod brings together thousands of faithful members of the United Church of Christ for formal church witness, inspirational worship, and fellowship with friends (new and old).  In June 2017, thousands from across the country (and abroad) will gather for General Synod 2017 in Baltimore, Maryland. Together, we will discern resolutions of witness, church structure, and function. We will stand up for issues that demand a faithful witness. And we will join together in worship each day to lift up the Stillspeaking God.  At General Synod 2017, we will "Make Glad!" as we celebrate, debate, worship and witness. Join us. More information.

Wall of Prayer

Peace United Church of Christ in Webster Groves, 204 E Lockwood Ave., has erected a wall of prayer on its lawn facing Lockwood Ave., welcoming prayer requests from anyone in the wider community. Anyone may leave a prayer request. The prayer requests will be collected each week and offered in the Sunday morning worship services at the church. Members then will take home the requests to pray about them during the following week.

The wall will remain on the front lawn until Easter, to coincide with the Christian Lenten season. Peace UCC worship services are at 8:30am and 11am each Sunday morning.  Anyone may leave a prayer request, with or without leaving their names. There will be paper and writing utensils available.  A staff member will collect the prayers on Saturday, April 15. The minister will read the prayer requests and the congregation will respond in prayer requests and pray about them during the following week.
This came about when retired pastor Rev. Al Schon came up with the idea for the wall as an opportunity for a church in the suburbs to support people in need throughout the metropolitan area. Rev. Schon states: "As a society, we are experiencing all sorts of pain, suffering and fear. Peace United Church of Christ wants to provide the community with a unique way of offering up their prayers requesting healing, solace and strength. Receiving prayer requests in our "Wall of Prayer" will give us the opportunity as a religious community to support those who leave them, and further, to exercise our belief that God listens to the concerns of all of God's children. So it doesn't matter to God or to us whether they belong to our church or another, or if they are of a faith tradition other than Christian; their prayers matter. And so we will join our prayers to theirs."
