Backstoppalooza  Saturday, August 26  Doors open at 6:00 pm  Chesterfield Amphitheater  Free to attend. All ages.

The 5th Annual Backstoppalooza fundraiser concert, presented by GO! Magazine/St. Louis Post Dispatch, Hesse Martone and Merrill Lynch, will be on Saturday, August 26 at the Chesterfield Amphitheater, beginning at 6:00 pm. The concert is free to attend and is open to the public. All merchandise, food, beverage and donations will benefit Backstoppers, Inc., an organization that provides immediate financial aid and other support to the families of Police Officers and Firefighters who lose their lives in the line of duty.

The headlining band for this year’s Backstoppalooza concert is REVELATION/A TRIBUTE TO JOURNEY!  Revelation/A Tribute to Journey started from the love and respect for the musicians that make up one of the best bands out of California, Journey. Revelation/A Tribute to Journey are five talented musicians that capture the sounds and magic of the ban.  Danny Wayman with his amazing vocal ability, perfectly emulates the vocal style of Steve Perry. With dedication and emphasis on detail, Revelation/A Tribute to Journey is a band that brings a new meaning and energy to the word “tribute.”

October 1, CROP Hunger Walk - This year the CROP Hunger Walk will also be connected with a Concert and take place on Sunday Oct. 1 in the evening. It will take place at Eden Theological Seminary.  The walk will be around the Eden quadrangle and campus. Registration is from 5:30 – 6:00.  There will be food available for purchase from 5-6:45.  The concert starts at 7P.M. and will be connected with the 6th annual Eden Festival of Psalms.  It will feature Richard  Bruxvoort Colligan, Paul Vasile, and the Eden Choir.  Attending the concert qualifies you for collecting donations. The donations go to Church World Service to raise funds to end hunger in the U.S. and around the world. 25% will stay in the St. Louis area. October 14, Festival of Sharing - Immanuel United Church of Christ, 126 Church Street, Saturday, Oct. 14 from 9 A.M.-2 P.M.  For over 30 years many people in Missouri have participated in the Festival of Sharing. This is an interfaith celebration and gathering of resources to combat hunger and poverty. Churches and groups have bought many different packs-food boxes, hygiene packs, reading and writing packs, women’s prison packs to be distributed to agencies around Missouri or to be distributed by Church World Services overseas.  SOSA partners with Festival of Sharing to provide 44,000 pounds of potatoes to be distributed. The Festival has taken place in Sedalia, Missouri and now there are also mini-festivals around the state.  There was a Sharefest in Ferguson last year.  It was a great success.  The group Pack Shack helped us package enough dehydrated casseroles to make 30,000 meals.  The St. Louis  Region Sharefest  will take place this year in Ferguson at the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 126 Church Street, Saturday, Oct. 14 from 9 A.M.-2 P.M.  There will be kit drop off starting at 9:30, worship at 11:30, lunch at noon,and kit distribution at 1.  There will also be the Pack Shack with s repeat of packing dehydrated meals.

October 29 - November 4, Mission Trip to Back Bay Mission, Biloxi, Mississippi, Parkway UCC has a reservation for the dates of Sunday, October 29 through Saturday, November 4, 2017 for up to 12 people. Typically, work will include electrical/plumbing (assisting local contractors), carpentry, insulation, drywall, painting, roofing, flooring, deck building and some demolition. All skill levels are welcome, but they recommend that some of the group have moderate to high levels of construction skills. We will be responsible for our own food, so there is an opportunity for a cook to come along. Youth 14-17 are allowed with adult supervision. The work week is typically 8-4, M-F. We usually take an afternoon off from work to sight see, probably a trip to New Orleans. Participants will each need to supply $75 lodging + $100 materials per person for the week.
